Export Accessible PDFs
GoodData supports exporting dashboards and visualizations to accessible PDF files that follow the PDF/UA-1 accessibility standard. This ensures that exported reports are readable by assistive technologies such as screen readers and remain accessible to users with different abilities.
Accessible exports are available when Accessibility Mode is enabled in your workspace.
Supported Export Types
GoodData offers several export methods. Not all of them currently produce accessible output.
| Export Type | Accessibility Support | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Slide Deck Export | ✅ Fully accessible | Follows PDF/UA-1 standard. Each slide includes structured content that screen readers can interpret. |
| Snapshot Export (Chrome Print to PDF) | ⚠️ Partially accessible | Accessibility depends on Chrome’s printing library. These exports are only as accessible as the print engine allows. |
| Tabular PDF Export | ❌ Not supported | Not available in accessibility mode. |
| Visual PDF Export | ✅ Accessible | Includes hidden data tables under each visualization for screen readers. |
| CSV / Excel Export | ✅ Accessible | Recommended alternative for detailed tabular data. |
Export Limitations in Accessibility Mode
When Accessibility Mode is active, some features are limited or disabled to ensure compliance and predictable results:
| Area | Limitation |
|---|---|
| (Pivot) Table PDF export | Not developed for accessible output. It is disabled in accessibility mode. |
| Plugins | Exported plugins are not accessible. Plugins should not be used in accessible exports. |
| Headings in rich text | Headings are not shown in exported PDFs. |
| Separators in rich text | Separators are not marked as artifacts and will not appear in accessible exports. |
| Headings and images in descriptions | These elements are not displayed. |
| Table export | Only the first page of each table is exported to an accessible format. Dashboards should use single-page tables. |
| Snapshot export | Export of dashboard snapshots is disabled in accessibility mode. |
Notes on Compliance
Accessible slide deck exports follow PDF/UA-1 standards.
This includes:
- Proper reading order
- Tagged structure for text and tables
- Logical headings and labels
- Text scaling up to 200% without losing information
Exports produced outside accessibility mode or using the Chrome print engine may not fully meet these standards.
