Prior to GoodData, Kevin was responsible for delivering consulting services such as analytic product strategy, data monetization, and go-to-market services at NextWave Business Intelligence. He is the author of numerous ebooks, articles, and webinars on embedded analytics and building data products. In addition to NextWave, Kevin has held leadership positions heading analytics teams, designing SaaS products, and performance and managing product teams for both small start-ups and Fortune 500 companies such as SAP, ServiceSource, and Qwest Communications. Kevin holds a B.S. in Finance, as well as an M.B.A. in Quality/Process Management, both from the University of Maryland, College Park.

I had the opportunity to speak with Mike recently about Aberdeen’s Embedded Analytics Survey and it occurred to us that we are in the midst of a new wave of analytics, essentially the Third Wave. We decided it would make sense to turn our discussion into a webinar to discuss the changes we’ve seen over the last year and what to expect in 2019 and beyond.

The First Wave of Analytics involved static, rigid, IT-owned systems. Analytics were developed by a select group of experts who were solely responsible for identifying what was happening within the business from the data they could gather.

The Second Wave of Analytics expanded these capabilities to a more business-facing analyst set. Now, analytics were available to more than just a few experts. Analysts in various departments were given the tools — still complex and requiring expertise — to derive insights as needed.

The Third Wave of Analytics, which we are currently experiencing, aims to infuse analytical activity into multiple layers of non-technical business roles.

One of the pillars of the Third Wave is embedded analytics which places the analytics directly into the everyday user application. ISVs and enterprises who have adopted this strategy are seeing their applications become stickier with a new competitive advantage and revenue stream as well. We’ill be discussing this analytical evolution: looking at where we’re at and where we are going.

Aberdeen’s Embedded Analytics Survey will be sent to all attendees on December 5th, following the webinar. In conjunction with the survey findings, we’ll also be talking about real-world examples of companies that are putting these strategies into action.
