New, easy-to-use attribute filters have arrived!

New Attribute Filter

Attribute filter on a dashboardUntil today the only way how reports could be filtered on dashboards was through so called variables. We knew that the variables are a little difficult to use so we built a much easier way how to add interactive filters to your dashboards - attribute filters.

We added a simple drop down menu that allows you to select an attribute you want to filter and add it to a specific dashboard tab. If you want to have the same filter on multiple tabs, just add filters for the same attributes to the other tabs. The attributes filters on multiple tabs are "connected" meaning that if you select attribute values on one tab, all other tabs will be filtered too.

When you add a new filter to a tab, the filter is automatically applied to all the reports and you can exclude reports that you don't want the filter to be applied to. You can also change the title of the filter and the drop-down now displays first few values that are selected. If you hover over the drop-down a list of all filtered values will be displayed.

The new filters are a great way to allow users interact with the reports and display only subsets of data they are interested in. See a screenshot of our Salesforce Sales Analytics app for an example.

Variable Filter

The powerful "Variable Filters" are still there and allow you to filter data differently for different users. Just select the "Variable" button and chose the desired variable from the list.

We are also working on improving little things like hiding the date attributes that are cluttering the drop-down list of attributes and also in the view mode on a dashboard, you won't need to click "none" first before selecting values you want to filter. These improvements are coming out soon. Stay tuned!
